MM 465, Advanced Web Design, is the final web course in the Multimedia Program. Building on students’ experience in developing compelling, usable, standards-based design in ART 205 and MM 365, MM 465 explores dynamic web development.
Students continue to learn about the structure and technologies which comprise the World Wide Web, as well as best practices for building web sites which are attractive, functional, and accessible to the widest possible audience.
Student do work with the PHP scripting language, the MySQL database engine, and their choice of open-source web applications, such as WordPress for blogging, Gallery2 for image management, or Drupal for content management. They also learn how to integrate Flash into interactive development. The capstone project for the course is an interactive, content-managed web site which is partially comprised of an interactive section, and partially of the open-source web application of the student’s choice, fully integrated into their design aesthetic.
